First Videos of Quiet Atlantic Sailing

Every wondered what it is like on the open Atlantic ocean? In this post we share our first two sailing videos. Both were taken on relatively quiet Atlantic days. Even then, you get a good idea of the motion of Van Kedisi as the sails pull her along.

The first video was shot between the Canary Islands and Cape Verde:

This second video showcases Van Kedisi’s spinnaker showing how well it flies off the bow. Midway through this video you can catch a glimpse of Rick Lane at the helm.

While we were in the Cape Verde Islands, we took one day off to take ferry from Mindolo, where Van Kedisi was anchored, to Porto Nuvo on the island of San Antao. We spent the day exploring the island, including a two-hour hike down the mountains. While sea level was dry with little vegetation, the upper elevations had farms, trees, and extensive growth. We got to explore all these contrasts during our day on the island.

For a photo set of San Antao, check out our Flickr set Exploring Santo Antao.

We also recorded a 2:30 video of the walk down the mountains. About midway in the video we are paid a visit by a local and his friend. You’ll have to watch the video to see the surprise.
